Tom Waits - The Heart of Saturday Night (LP)

Moving past the folk and pop of his first album, The Heart of Saturday Night (1974), Waits' second studio album, made his name as a versatile, distinctly American songwriter. Bluesy jazz arrangements back him with bass, drums, sax and Waits on piano. The title track, a wistful ode to Saturday night rituals, and the tender "San Diego Serenade" have been covered by everyone from Diana Krall to Nanci Griffith. It also has the first of his spoken word pieces, "Diamonds on My Windshield," delivered as pure beat jazz in the spirit of Kerouac, Langston Hughes and Bob Kaufman. "Beneath the sophisticated brilliance of his lyrics, Waits reveals a haunting innocence." (Rolling Stone) This is Anti's remastered LP.
