Hours Were the Birds is Adrianne Lenker's first solo album, made in 2013 when she'd just moved to New York and wanted a record that showed what she did. She went home to Minneapolis, cut ten songs on acoustic guitar with producer Rob Oesterlin at Terrarium Studios, and Andrew Sarlo (who later produced Big Thief's Masterpiece and Capacity) mixed it.

In her words it's "basically just like a live solo show, but with an added twist." This 4AD reissue puts it back on black vinyl.
