Nick Waterhouse - The Fooler (CD)

The Fooler (2023) is the sixth album from California singer-songwriter Nick Waterhouse. Recorded with Mark Neill (The Black Keys, Los Straitjackets) in Valdosta, Georgia, it plays like a song cycle about a city and the people in it, a San Francisco he knows well enough to walk with his eyes closed. You get the roadhouse soul of "Play to Win," the two-chord chug of "Late in the Garden" and the title track's drama before it all pays off with "Unreal, Immaterial."
